Evening Included Appearances by Nevada State Legislators and Special Presentation by Jeremy Aguero from Applied Analysis
On Dec. 7, Opportunity Village hosted a special Legislators Night for Nevada state elected officials at the Magical Forest. Special guests in attendance included state senators Scott Hammond (District 18) and Patricia Farley (District 8), and assembly members Olivia Diaz (District 11), James Ohrenschall (District 12) and James Oscarson (District 36).
Jeremy Aguero from Applied Analysis, who also serves as the ARC Board president, presented the 2016 Community Impact Assessment, highlighting the significant impression Opportunity Village’s programs and initiatives have had on the community of Southern Nevada over the past two years. Findings included that Opportunity Village saves Nevada taxpayers an estimated $37.4 million annually (net) by defraying assistance costs that would otherwise fall to the state. The organization also provides direct benefits to its clients, OVIPs, of $3.7 million, reducing the demand of state and local governments. In 2016, $3.7 million in wages were paid directly to OVIPs through Opportunity Village’s Employment Resource Centers and various employment contracts within the community.
OV welcomes Nevada legislators to this special event each holiday season as an opportunity for state elected officials to learn more about the organization and its current initiatives, and share success stories from many of the adults with intellectual disabilities it serves.
